Treasures of Danville

Summertime sizzles in Danville with music
festivals, parades and great shopping and dining
experiences! Where else can you do something virtually every weekend with your entire family and you don’t have to spend a penny?

We just finished the June Fine Arts Faire over Father’s Day weekend. What a great event! My favorite part of any street faire is early in the morning before the attendees begin to arrive. All of the artists are setting their wares up and there is excitement in the air. Walking along the booths, I got the comment “you are so lucky to be in Danville”.

I want to say a special “Thank You” to our local downtown merchants who graciously allow us to come onto their streets year after year. This year under the leadership of Marcia Harmon, owner of Cottage Jewels, the merchants developed a wonderful strolling map highlighting many of the shops and restaurants in downtown Danville. We handed out almost 5,000 of these brochures to our visitors (and residents). The brochure listed 10 reasons why people should come back to Danville and included
the Shops at Blackhawk, the Livery, Blackhawk Auto Museum, Eugene O’Neill’s Tao House, and the Rose Garden Shopping Center.
Blackhawk Plaza has lots of summer events including Family Fun Days every Sunday from 12-3. Kids and adults always love visiting the Blackhawk Auto Museum. I always include Blackhawk Plaza and the Museum on my itinerary for out of town visitors. Check out www.shopblackhawkplaza.com and www.blackhawkmuseum.org. If you’ve never attended a concert at Blackhawk Plaza – you’re missing out. This year’s lineup is tremendous!

The Danville Livery offers plenty of summer fun and sizzle. Be sure and check out their schedule of events at www.danvillelivery.com. The Summer Round Up is a great family outing adventure at the Livery. There are two Round Ups left this year – Saturday, July 9 and Saturday, August 13. Each features free family fun, live music, horse-drawn wagon rides, caramel apples, giveaways, entertainment and more.

What’s next in Danville? The Discover Danville Association had 2 evening street fairs planned – Thursday, July 14th and Thursday, August 11th. Danville merchants are encouraged to rent a booth space for only $50. This is a great way to promote your business! You can get a form for either or both events at www.discoverdanvilleca.com.
Danville Hot Summer Nights are Thursday, July 21st and Thursday, August 18th. Come downtown and stroll through the 100’s of classic cars. Both events run from 4:00 – 9:00 pm.

No need to travel – there are many treasures here in Danville!
